I love Mondays

I really do!  I used to say I hated Mondays, but now I love them.  Four weeks ago, I stopped working on Mondays and it has made all the difference.  I was just looking out the window in my craft room, and guess what was there by the tree in the picture? 

A fawn.  Really, he WAS THERE, until I opened the door to take a picture.  Ho hum, I guess it was just for me to see.  What a great way to start the week.  I'm excited to see what the rest of the week holds with a beginning like this.......it should be a treasure trove of wonderful things!

Today's score

Lenny and I went out and hit a few garage sales this morning, and I came home with this!

An elderly lady was having a garage sale and the whole garage sale was fabric and lace, all at 1/2 off the price marked.  She said, " I have been sewing for 50 years and I am tired of it", as she sat embroidering some sort of table runner with Christmas colors.  Hum.....  I guess when sewing is that much a part of you, it would be very hard to completely give up even if you wanted to desperately!

The Rondeau's

Even though we all know I am not a quilter, this week I made arrangements to spend some time with a couple, Steve and Jan Rondeau, who own a quilting business out of their home.  Steve and Jan were so gracious when I invited myself over to take a look at their "set-up" and glean any information from them possible.  Their business is called quilted expressions and it is booming.  I didn't realize the demand there is for a quilting service!   

As you can imagine, they have some very beautiful quilts displayed throughout their home.  I didn't get any pictures of those (I just wasn't thinking), but here is a picture of the princess of their home, Katy.

I really am interested in the process of making a quilt because I believe I could use some of the basic principles of quilting for other projects I am sewing.   I recently learned how to miter a corner using this technique from Heather Bailey's blog.  Since I am a bias (and straight) tape hoarder, this has come in very handy for a couple of projects I have made recently.

Kindred Spirits

I have a friend. Her name is Danyelle and she is 4 years old.  I have taught her in the 3 year old Sunday school class at our church for several months.  Now that she is 4, she is moving on.  Every week she came to class, the first thing she did was find a race car and horse to play with.  This last week, she came to class and told me she is 4 now, and she wants a white pony and a "Herbie" car for her birthday.  She is a treasure and God has knit our hearts together in a very special way.

It's HOT!!!

It is so hot outside!  Inside too for that matter.  We don't have air conditioning, so when it's 100 degrees outside, the temp inside our house can creep up to the high eighties by 5 or 6 pm.  I really think it is affecting what I am working on in the sewing room.  It's like subliminal messages or something. 

   

                                                                      

                                                               

                                                                              

HOT pads.  Hhmm, yes, I do believe it is affecting me. 

To make these, I have been raiding my scrap pile,

sewing pieces together, and using an old cotton blanket for the batting.  I finally tried out my BSR foot and sewed swirls on the top for the quilting.  I have always confessed I am not a quilter, but I think in some small way, this is classified as quilting!
