That's it.  I've decided I have a ^new^ past time.  Folding fabric.  Um, I really didn't think I would enjoy it AT ALL.  But I do.  I was out and about on the web the other day and came across this tutorial *edit- by way of the talented Amy at Buraellen!  I had always wondered how the fabric in the Joann's sale flyers looked so perfect.  I guess I secretly though they glued the fabric to some kind of form to get it to be so smooth and well, the same.  Exactly the same no matter what color or pattern.  It boggled my mind.  Now I know their little secret.  And now my fabric stash looks like a Joann's sale ad!

and just for fun:

So just tttrrrryyyyyyyy it, fabric folding is FUN!

you make me want to tidy all of my fabric, yours is looking so neat, mine looks more like a rummage sale!

I'm drooling at all of that lovely tidy fabric!!!!! You put me to shame!

I just spent a bunch of time folding all of my fabric into not so neat and tidy the same sized squares...this method looks like it would work best!

wow Penny just look at all that lovely fabric !!! Lucky you! Looks lovely and neat.

Hey: good job looks a lot better than it did
when some of it was in my barn,so when you get a couple yrs, off you can come & work on my barn Ok.love Dad.

I do that, too! In a January 2007 sewing magazine, a professional seamstress (could be the same person) gave the instructions for this and dimensions for shelving. My husband made me five, six-foot! "book/fabric cases" (no, not all are filled with fabric, but almost) for me on castors. I love, love, love seeing my fabric perfectly folded away. It is very therapeutic when nothing else is! I wish I had that perfect trick for all my housekeeping! P.S. I found you by way of Ravenhill. -- Michele

glad you checked out the tutorial. isn't it so much fun?

Wow, that's a great tutorial - so simple! Your fabric stash looks gorgeous! I have to hide mine from sticky little fingers but it could do with some folding. Thanks!

It all looks great! And hey -- since you love folding so much, please come to my dungeon and fold for me. I started that project several months ago and just can't seem to get finished -- I'm only about 2/3rds done with lots left to go!

hey - want to come over and fold my fabric!? haha...jk. great stash! nice work!

:) Diana

Wow! So organized, something I should probably do but when I do I always buy more fabric and then I am back to square one...

oooh, that looks great Penny. I am envious of your lovely fabrics and their foldedness!

OK you've got my interest. I'm going to go figure out how to fold fabric to look like yours! I love the fact that you did it. You go girl!
Love the blog. I'll be back
Blessings,

Penny - I read this post when I found you blog a couple of weeks ago and thought, great idea. I thought it was such a great idea I shared it with my mom. I added the idea to my, should do that sooner than later list and that was as far as I got. Until my mom called and said "I got rid of three of those giant totes, you have to do this." So, today I started and with just a couple hours under my belt I am shocked at how nice my messy big piles are starting to shape up! Thanks for passing this along!
