L-man and I had planned a short backpacking trip for this last weekend, but due to rain, we decided to do a hike instead up to blue lake. The hot air balloon was flying almost directly over our house as we were packing the car. That's one thing I'd like to do, take a hot air balloon ride, wouldn't you?
I'll spare you all the gory details of losing the trail due to snow cover, having to bushwhack, crossing snow fields, post-holing through the snow into the stream beneath and giving up hope of finding the lake only to find it AND discovering we were WAY above it and able to see Hang Lake as well. It was a very good day indeed!
I hope your week is bright!

What beauty, and the wonders of creation are priceless. Thanks for sharing! Yesterday as we drove threw our little town there pulling into he gas station was a truck with a hot air balloon basket and under a tarp must have been the balloon. I wanted to follow them!

Your pictures make me sigh. They are so beautiful and it makes me wish I were there hiking right now. We are going camping to Crater Lake in a few weeks and it is my favorite place. What is it about a lake surrounded by pine trees that is just so breathtaking? Glad you got to enjoy such a beautiful experience.

Wow! I would have been scared to death about getting lost - even though I know hubby would have gotten us out. Which picture is Hang Lake? We always wanted to get to that, but never did.

Gorgeous, Penny! I never got that far up the Poudre Canyon - now I wish I had! Love the moose!! We had a hot air balloon fly over the Squash House last week! I rode in one about 20 years ago - it was a blast! The spotter couldn't find us after we landed because we were down in a dip and our radio signal was getting lost - by the time he finally found us, we had consumed not the one glass of champagne they normally give you at the end of the ride, but shall we say a tad more? I highly recommend going up in one - it's quite a ride!
Cheers!

Penny, I'm trying to understand how "snow" and "good day" could be mentioned in tandem in July!
Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed your trek. Our schedule is a little too full to accommodate anything other than a light jog on the local rails-to-trails stint.

How beautiful! I love to go hiking, we went on a short hike over the 4th too. Yes, I'd love to go up in a balloon. How exciting would that be?

Was that snow I saw? Light years (or miles) away from my Caribbean 4th of July weekend. How fun to be in the mountains. Looks like you had fun!
