I am sew excited I finally did it! I have my first pattern for sale!
Introducing........ the Market Bag!
And it's now available for purchase through paypal on my sidebar, or in my etsy shop.
So many people have asked how to make this bag or have requested custom bags, so now you can make a Market Bag of your own!
Now about the giveaway. I'm going to give away 5 pdf files of this pattern AND the actual bag in the top photo, totaling 6 lucky winners!
But really, everyone is a winner. Because during the giveaway, I'm offering the pattern up for only $3.50. Just through the giveaway time. It will go to it's normal price of $5 next Sunday June 12th at 8pm MST. (If you purchase the pattern during the giveaway and win a copy, I will reimburse you.)
It's easy to enter, and to get extra entries!
1. For one entry, if you don't crochet, leave me a comment telling me what color of bag you will make when you learn (or ask your dearest crocheting friend to make for you)! If you already crochet, leave a comment telling me who taught you how to crochet and and how long you have been crocheting.
2. For a second entry, post about this giveaway on your blog and then come back here and leave another comment saying so.
3. For a third entry, subscribe to sewtakeahike and come back and leave another comment letting me know.
I'll leave this post open for comments until Sunday July 12 at 8pm MST and will share the winners on Monday July 13th which will be chosen randomly.
Good luck to you all!
Penny
p.s. This quilt is coming along nicely, so make sure you check back for the *possible* (wink wink) quilt giveaway!

great bag! I love green and I do not crochet. I can kinda knit, but would rather sew or do embroidery. But congrats on the pattern. Thant is a must have bag. I would use it for the produce that ends up crammed in with those cans!

I learned 6 years ago along with special ed. students I worked with. I had to stay one step a head to be able to trouble shoot. One student surpassed me and I had to learn from her, which is mostly the case when working with special needs, you always learn and receive more than you give.
I already subscribe.

I am very new to crocheting, I used a youtube video and some online sites to help me learn. I just recently finished a blanket for my son, it's just a big granny square but I'm still proud of actually finishing it and it looks decent. I hope I win this pattern so I can give it a try :)

I learned how to crochet years ago with my grandmother-she was incredible at all kinds of handwork. I made all my Christmas gifts - lots of shawls! I recently picked it back up again - it's like riding a bike - you don't forget how. I would love to make your bag to give as gifts and keep.

How fun Penny! Way cute bag too! My aunt taught me to crochet when I was maybe 10? She is left handed and I am right, but she did it. My first were granny squares. And I've been crocheting off and on for since. I've even done some doilies! I would probably make one in Red, one in Black, one in Natural, LOL. ;o) ooxx`jodi

The pattern is so cute!
My mom taught me to crochet when I was in 5th or 6th grade. I remember I made a baby blanket for my 6th grade teacher. She was very impressed. I kind of go in and out of crocheting. I crocheted a ton of things over the years, but then found quilting. And I've finally learned how to knit better, so I've been doing that. However, I can pretty much pick up any crochet pattern and still do a decent job on it.

Of course I already subscribe to you! You're in my Reader.

OOOH! If I win the pattern then I'm going to give it to the youth group girls at our church. They all know how to crochet and are always looking to make things for missions and these bags would be perfect to send to Guatemala!!
In Guatemalla they love bright colours so I think they would end up quite fun!

A girlfriend taught me how to make granny squares after I was married. My mom had taught me to knit. I've done lots with both, but for the last 10 years have gotten more into sewing/quilting. But I do get itching to do some needle/finger work.

My Grandma Jessie taught me to crochet about 35 years ago. I also remember crocheting a purse for a 4-H project. I knit a lot now... but I have been dreaming of making a granny square afgan - like one my grandma made.

Great bag! It'd look awesome in red or blue! I haven't crotched in years but I'd pick it up again if I win!!!
Posted by: Nancy | 05 July 2009 at 01:51 PM
That is a wonderful bag. I haven't crocheted in a long time but it looks like I could do it. I was taught by my mother and at church.

When I was about twelve a neighbor lady taught me to crochet. She gave me a hook and some yard and taught me the basics. I crochet occasionally, but I prefer to sew. I guess I have been crocheting for between 30 and 40 years.

Gorgeous, I love it!
I taught myself to crochet when I was in my early 20s, then again a few years again when my first daughter was born. Haven't stopped since!

What a great bag...I love it! I learned to crochet from a book many, many years ago. I learned to knit the same way. I think this is the cutest crochet bag I've ever seen!

I have been crocheting for forty years (yes I am ancient) and I taught myself through alot of trial and error. I would love to make this bag in a green color - my favorite color. Your bag is lovely.
Posted by: Anne | 05 July 2009 at 04:32 PM
I think I'd want to do a multicoloured one.

wow you have been so busy lately Penny, everything you have been making is sooo gorgeous including this beautiful bag! If I did ever master crochet (in another lifetime I think it will be at this rate) I would make it in pink!!!

What a great bag! I taught myself to crochet when I wanted to make a beanie for my daughter. The first one was shakey but then I started making lots and she was known as Beanie girl for a while. I also made them for some of her friends. I now do rag rugs, baby blankets, knapsack bags and hopefully, fingers crossed, one of your market bags. Thanks for the giveaway. ~Susan

My Mom taught me to crochet and I have made a pillow cover. I would be excited to win. Thanks. Janey Joop

I learned how to crochet about 10 years ago. My mom had tried to teach me on several occasions, but it didn't take immediately. I started crocheting with a 5mm hook and crochet thread to trim baby blankets and burp cloths. And now I love it! Although, I'm not adventurous enough to do multicolored items. Maybe you can teach me how! That mkcarroll scarf almost did me in! But now I love it.
I'm pretty sure I would end up with a pink, blue and green bag. Most likely with an Amy Butler print strap. :)

My grandmother taught me to crochet beautiful lace and tatting, but I was an adult before I could read patterns. I alternate between croceting and knitting and quilting and smocking..... I would love to win this one for my daughter and crochet some for myself. It's a beautiful pattern.

I love your market bag--so cute and so practical. I learned to crochet from my mom. When I was about 13 years old, she taught me to knit and we would crochet down the front of ski sweaters. Since, I have crocheted afghans, stuffed animals, and pillow tops. It's a little hard for me to follow crochet directions.

Now i am only a basic crocheter, and i mean basic, if you show me how to do a stitch i can but when it comes to reading a pattern my dear friend Joybell gets called in, she's the gem i have in mind to crochet for me. RED, RED, RED - what other color could you possibly use.
