I'm not sure what to call it.

for the busy bees bee.

Things I learned while making this block:

*being original comes at a price, namely the amount time involved and the number of times a seamripper is used.

*equilateral triangles would be easier to work with than the offset triangles I used in this block.

*to play around with the pieces of a block before starting to sew them together, there may be a better combination that will take the design from good to fantastic.

*perfection is overrated.

scrappy dresden pillow

Happy Monday to you all!  How was your weekend?  Did you do anything fun or memorable? 

For us, there was some kayaking and of course, lots of sewing (for me).   I finished up the dresden from our scrap challenge in our MQG and made it into a pillow for our bed.  It looks so sweet sitting on top of our QAYG (aka "monster quilt") quilt. 

I also started working on a design for Angela for her June block in the busy bees bee. 

Angela requested triangles and sent some kona and lots of katie jump rope.  After sleeping on the idea last night, I have a good idea of where to take this from here.  I'll let you know how it turns out!

scrappy dresden

The members of the Fort Collins MQG have started a tradition. At each meeting, someone brings scrap packs for the other members (so far, we are in the single digits) and before our next meeting, we're supposed to make something with the scraps.
I started this tradition at our first meeting and gave everyone some pretty, and some not so pretty scraps. At our last meeting, Jane followed my lead. I wanted to make something that was pretty, even though I didn't really appreciate some of the fabrics, and this is what I came up with (the blue FMF was my addition).

To make, you will need:

• a piece of cardstock cut into thirds (on the 11 inch side)
• fabric scraps for leaves (I used 1.5 inch diamonds)
• sewing machine
• white craft glue 

Arrange your fabrics how you'd like them and apply them to the cardstock using a tiny amount of glue (about the amount that the end of a toothpick will hold). 

Free motion quilt the flower and stem and then sew down the leaves.
