Are you surprised to find another scrappy project? I hope not, they're my favorite!
I was "talking" with Ayumi just a couple of days ago about how fabulous her fabrics smell. We did a little private fabric swap and when I opened her package, I couldn't help but draw the fabrics close and smell the goodness.
This so inspired me, I started thinking about ways to make my fabrics smell better when I do a swap with someone, since it's always such a treat to open a package and smell sweetly scented fabrics.
If you'd like to make your own scrappy lavendar sachets, this is what you will need:
- small scraps of fabrics. some of mine were as small as 1.5X1.5
- 16 oz. glass jar of rice
- lavendar essential oil
- small funnel
What you will do:
Put 15 or 20 drops of lavendar oil into the jar of rice and shake it well.
Piece your scraps together to make a cloth in the size and shape you desire. Mine ended up approximately 3 inches in diameter and kind of a pentagon or hexagon shape.
Now lay your pieced fabric on top of the fabric you will use for the backing, wrong sides together.
Using a rotary cutter, cut the backing around the outline of the pieced fabric.
Now put the right sides of the front and back together and stitch around all sides except one.
Using a bone folder, pencil eraser, or whatever you have, turn the sachet right side out and then sew a circle or X, whatever you prefer, somewhere near the middle of the sachet.
Using your funnel, loosely pack the scented rice into the sachet, working around the sewn part in the middle.
Lastly, turn the unsewn edge in 1/4 inch, press, and topstitch closed.
I'd recommend storing your lavendar sachets in a little mason jar until they're used, to make sure they retain their scent.
Enjoy, and have a great weekend everyone!
