After procrastinating and making myself late to get Lynne's July Ringo Pie block done, this is what I've come up with.  I believe everyone else that has finished her block did a sort of British twist on her requested "design classics" theme, so I had to fall in line with that as well.

I based this block design on the British film "Kinky Boots". 

Also, a huge thank you to everyone that gave me ideas for getting rid of the skunk smell on Fozzy (aka "Peppy").  He's doing way better now, he no longer has a green cloud lingering around him and you can only smell the skunk if you sink your nose in his fur.  I ended up wiping a product called natures miracle (for skunk odors) on him and letting it dry.  The directions said to then rinse it off, but I never got around to it and he seems to be doing fine.  It didn't take away all of the smell, but made it so you couldn't smell him unless you put your nose next to him, which is a huge improvement!

Fairy Tale Sailboats

 

 

I am so excited to finally get to show you all one of my latest creations. 

It's called "Fairy Tale Sailboats" and I designed it using the Fairy Tale Friends line by Sandi Klop that will be out in October.  It's featured today on the Moda Bakeshop along with the pattern and tutorial, so I would love it if you stopped by my post at the MBS to let me know what you think!

And I have a question for you.  Does anyone know of a product that gets skunk smell off a cat without washing the cat?  My cat's  a little stinker... he ran out of the house late last night and chased a skunk.  Ick.

Out of the Box with Easy Blocks

 

 

I was absolutely thrilled when Mary Lou contacted me to see if I would do a review and giveaway of her new book she co-authored with Melanie.

 

Once I received the book and started flipping through it, I got even more excited.

 

 

I am so inspired every time I look at it!

So I decided to test one of the blocks, the flower pot pattern, which is made of three sections.  

I love the way the instructions are written up in basically two ways.  

The first is a picture with written instructions on cutting your pieces.  

The second is a picture with measurements in each section so you don't have to read the instructions!  I love that!  I'm such a visual person and too many words just make me confused and slow me down so much of the time.

Here's my block.  I love the irregular dimensions (it's 9 X 31.5") of it and have already decided I'm going to either make a quilt top out of it, with the flower pot being the main focus, or I'm going to use it to back my "rooms of my heart" quilt.

 

 **NOTE:  I've been getting a lot of questions about what the name of the background fabric is.   I used a combo of three newsprints, moda authentic by sweetwater (long out of print and hard to find), some Annie's seed catalog by Lakehouse, and a Japanese print with no selvedge info. The whiter print I used that is not a newsprint, but just has words, is from the wordplay line by benartex.

upcoming.....

 

Hey you all! 

After trying to keep my summer pretty open and free, things are shaping up to be pretty busy here the end of August through September.  I created this mosaic:

to give you an idea of a few things that are up and coming.... a couple of giveaways, a new MBS project, and a new pattern I'm creating in conjunction with Kelly at Superbuzzy with some awesome ManifiQ and Kumiko Fujita fabrics! 

Here are a few things I've been thankful for in the last two weeks:

• Fozzy our cat has become quite the hunter and loves bringing his play things home to mama.  A few days ago, I let him out early in the morning and within five minutes, he was inside, running around a bookshelf like a crazy man.  I had a sneaking suspicion what was going on, so I shut him in and commanded him to catch the mouse he had just brought in.  When my husband got home later that day from work, guess what was laying lifeless by his cat house.  Good Fozzy!
• Our cars check engine light came on and we took it to our friend and mechanic and he hooked it up to the computer and found out that the radiator cap just needed a tighten.
• The nighttime temps have been dropping a bit lately.  55 degrees makes for a good sleeping temp!
• Today I was able to encourage a patient at work.  She just got engaged and after asking me how long I have been married, sincerely asked me if I had any advice for her.  Without missing a moment, the words came out of my mouth "Just never give up".
