Granny quilts have been going around for a bit and until now, I've been sitting on the sidelines knowing that eventually I'd get to it.
When the fine folks at Connecting Threads contacted me about doing a project with their Maple Skies line, I got super excited to do my granny quilt. It's actually a "great granny", and I'm calling it "autumn sky".
I decided on 4.5" squares and used 2.5" sashing in between the blocks and 4" sashing around the edges.

It ended up at 62"X83".
A couple of tips if you decide to make a granny or "great granny":
- sew all the squares for each block together before pressing.
- When sewing the rows of squares together, use fork pins, they really work to keep the seams put so you get perfect seam matches.

I've been a fan of the grannys for a while, but this is one of the best I've seen. What a great color combination!

What a beautiful quilt! I love the colors in it. Definitely 'light an autumn scented candle and embrace the season' kind of quilt, but w/o being an in your face seasonal item. Great job!

That is a pretty color scheme especially against the brown deck and greenery. I like the way the colors pop with the white sashing.
