Thank-you so much everyone for your suggestions on how to finish off this baby quilt. As you can see, I decided to go with a cross-hatch pattern as a couple people had suggested. It ended up 30 inches square.
The back is striped flannel
and is now listed in my etsy shop!
Coffee bag patterns are pouring out of me and the "timor" bag is now in my etsy shop! I'm working on a few other designs I'd like to make and put in my shop along with a few java bags.
The material for the timor is Michael Miller's garden tour and the straps and flip close strap are yummy leather. The timor is fully lined with a divided pocket.

Just one of the many ideas that have been floating around in my head. Don't you just love it when those ideas come to fruition and it actually looks good? It helps to feed the momentum and makes me want to do more. And as a bonus, L-man really likes it. He said, "now that's a bag someone might actually buy". Gee, thanks hun.
It'll probably be a while before I get these roses out of my system. My husband took me to the thrift store a couple days ago (now THAT's a miracle in itself people! My Lenny really dispises the thrift store. He won't touch ANYTHING, thinks he might get cooties or something. And then he has to go and marry me. The thrift store queen. Funny how these things work out.) to pick up some knit t-shirts so I could make more colorful roses. I have all sorts of ideas of things to make with these and one of them came to fruition today.
I've had this vintage pattern (purchased at a thrift store no less) with good intentions of making the oven mitt.
And just look what I found in my sewing room today!
Those fairies (yes, those fairies, Lolly) whipped this up with a little insul-brite as batting. Thank-you fairies!!

I'm making a quilt with these little beauties on the blocks and thought I would share the process with you all since it's coming out so pretty (in my opinion). I'm using some knit scrap I have from cutting up some long sleeve knit jerseys my husband wanted converted into short sleeved shirts. He had worn and washed the shirts several times so the knit is so soft! And since I'm having such a love affair with orange right now, the scraps are working perfect for me. so let's get started.
For one rose, you will need:
Firstly, decide what you are going to sew the rose to (a shirt, napkin, tea towel, quilt blocks, whatever) and mark the position of the middle of the flower:
Next, take your knit strip and fold the very end over at an angle like so.
There's no exact measurements to this, so you'll just have to use your imagination and free form it. It's highly unlikely you will be able to make two roses exactly alike.
Start sewing along the outside of the knit and folding your knit over as you go. I sew until I come to the point and then fold the knit again.
just keep on folding, keep on folding
until you have no more knit strip to sew. Now, tack the end down by tracing around the tail end with a stitch like so:
Next up, using a rotary cutter, cut some leaves out to the size and shape you desire.
and play with the placement until you like it
and then sew them down
tadaaaa!
If it only smelled as pretty as it looks!
(not that it smells bad, but you know what I mean!)

edit- hmmm, I just realized the post name "knit rose tutorial" could be confusing so I renamed this post to help avoid any confusion that the post is about knitting a rose.
I'm still having trouble with my words ladies and gents, so I'll just ask for forgiveness first thing. Even though I am at a loss, I do, however, feel utterly compelled to share the contents of an awesome package I received earlier this week from the very awesomely talented Lolly of LollyChops. I won this giveaway and I am just amazed at ALL of Lolly's work. The bracelet came complete with a second charm (green of course) so when I want a change, I can either add it or change the other one out. I'm in love with the P-tards she sent, I've been making these like crazy for other people just as a little "thinkin'bout you gift" (duh, not P-tards but whatever THEIR initial is-tards) and the measuring equiv. card and magnets went immediately to my fridge. I love it all Lolly, thank-you so much!
Here's another fusion bag I finished this week, and this one is going to be available in my shop later today
This is another one of those projects I just cannot believe I waited so long to do. Since I saw a tutorial on how to fuse plastic bags, I've been meaning to do it. But this morning during my quiet time, the idea dropped into my head to not only do the fusion project, but to laminate paper cut outs in-between the layers of plastic.
The little leaves are the paper cutouts, the words are just from a bag that I liked that I included in the fusion process.

This pillow I made yesterday with fabric from here. The back is an olive colored crushed velvet, ummm, so cuddley soft!

I've been keeping an eye out for these since spring started, and finally, they are starting to show their pretty little faces. My peonies are blooming! Every year I can hardly wait to chop them down once they open enough and put them in a pretty vase given to me by my husband's parents. It's the perfect size and shape for a bouquet of peonies.
Also, a special prize came for me in the mail yesterday. I marked this necklace as a fav on Etsy ages ago and I finally ordered it. I fell in love with the little glass bluebell flowers at once and knew I would have it! I love it! The little strawberry is a locket, hum...... what photo shall I put in it?
Lastly, I need to say a big thank-you to my Dad. He's always on the lookout for me in for any crafting "things" that I may be able to use while he is at garage sales, estate sales, or wherever he finds himself. We live in different states, so between the two of us, we have Colorado and Kansas covered. Anyway, a few weeks ago he sent a package to me with some of his latest finds. All I can say is, Dad, you're the best. You make my heart sing and I love you!

Just look at these lovely buttons! My favorite is the blue flower one.
These are knit squares someone cut for a quilt. Most of them have interfacing fused to the backs already. I may have to make my first quilt! The fabrics are all so interesting, just my style!
And would you just look at all that beautiful fabric. Someone cut out several pieces, sewed some together and then stopped for some reason. I'm sorry to say that it won't end up the way it was originally intended, but I already have a few pretty projects in mind for this.

Shhhh, don't tell Sarah, but I have no idea what I am doing!!!! She recently asked me to make a camera case for her to take on holiday in June, so yesterday I started a prototype to see what I could come up with. Keep in mind, I had never even thought of making a camera case before she asked, so after MANY revisions, much seamripping, cutting pieces apart and starting over, this is what I have come up with.
The whole bag is lined with cotton batting and haphazardly quilted around some of the designs in the fabric. Inside there is a little pocket which has a velcro closure to store extra batteries, memory cards and such.
I really liked the small scale of this project! I also love that I was able to make this from virtually all recycled materials. I used one of these swatches for the outside, and the lining is a thrifted cotton bedsheet. Oh happy day!
Now that I have all the mistakes out of the way, I can start on the real thing.
