Well hello again you crafty gals! Well, well, well. I took a bit of a break there from posting didn't I?? So, lets see, this last week I've completed a couple of custom orders and still have a medium job to complete... I finished up some swappy goodness and mailed that package off, I'll share more about that later on.
Firstly let me tell you I have been spending some time with my embroidery unit. I have found out that I love monogramming!!! I have been scouring the internet for the last week for sites that offer embroidery fonts for a bernina and the choices are really limited for the .art font designs (unless you want to pay really high prices!) but I have come across a couple of sites I really love. Bunnycup is one of those sites. Although I'm not in love with a lot of the embroidery on this site, a couple things I DO love are some of the applique packages like the cupcakes here, and their fonts. You *HAVE* to check out all their free retired sets, and their free download section. There are some free font designs in there people! And don't forget the bargain bin, there are some really inexpensive font designs in there!! Another site I really like is embroidables. Their designs are a little more pricey, but oh so cute!!
So this leads in to the swap I did with Amy. She offered to send me a jar of some pepper jelly she made recently so I thought, well hey, let's just do a swap! I wanted to get some practice in with machine embroidering so I monogrammed a couple things I sent to her. Since Amy has already received my package, I am going to take the liberty of showing what I sent.
The little strawberry is filled with lavender. I just love the smell of lavender, it so soothes my soul! The little black thing is an eye mask I made out of some brocade I absolutely love. Back to the embroidery. The only problem I've having with this whole machine embroidery thing is that usually I make something and then once I see it together, that's when I embellish it. I'm having a hard time just knowing before the thing is sewn if the embroidery will look good or not. Maybe that's why I'm drawn to monogramming right now. Because it's simple and it's hard to go wrong with it (unless you get someones initials wrong! That cracks me up. I wonder what Amy would have done if she would have gotten a package with items monogrammed with H's or something!) Anyway, does anyone know what I'm talking about with the whole *visualizing it before it's completed to know if will look good* thing? Any suggestions?
I also sent this flirty little half apron to her with an A monogrammed to the pocket
it's kind of hard to see in this pic so here's a close up
p.s. this is just for you Amy, please forgive my sewing skills when it came to the piping at the bottom of the pocket! This is the first time I've actually used piping (go figure, I've made it before, but never actually used it) and next time I would NOT finish it this way. If I would have been thinking, I would have tucked it into the seam but apparently I wasn't thinking!! I was just following the pattern directions is all.....
I love the apron pattern, was it a commercial one? I am shopping for a sewing machine, do you like your Bernina? I need to blog this weekend, contest winners will be announced on the 5th...

Okay - when I first saw your post I read "Mammogramming is king" and since October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, this all made sense to me. I did a double take, though, when you said "I have found out that I love mammogramming", certain you must be crazy!
Oh, MONOgramming. That makes more sense. Have fun with it!!

I'm addicted to aprons I think and this one is cute, cute! Love the embroidery too. I do some machine embroidery but not much. I just don't have enough time in my day - wish I could have 36 hours days instead of 24! blessings, marlene

Bernina and their .art format. Try Embroidery Library - they have TONS (and I do mean tons) of cute designs. Urban Threads is a new site that has many "current" looking designs - LOVE them. Both sites are reasonably priced. I love all of your stuff, it is very cute.

Thanks again, Penny! Your photos look great! I need to get someone to take a picture of my wearing it. It really is adorable and I had hardly noticed the piping. I've only used it once - it's a little tricky on the match up part.
Which Bernina do you have? I have the basic model - nothing fancy, it's on loan from my mom. But after seeing the monogramming I decided when I get my own machine that would be a fun thing to have on it.
I hope you get your package tomorrow. I'm sorry I didn't get it in the mail sooner.

this couldn't be cuter, it's all so sweetly pink and girly, great job penny. That apron is cute enough to be a skirt!

There you are! Your monograms look great :) I don't have an embroidery machine - I didn't want to add to my list of to-do's! lol I've toyed with the idea of making piping, I have the foot and all, but haven't done it yet. There's always tomorrow :) I think the piping on the apron is great, shows off all the little details you might miss if it wasn't there.

Wow such a nice swap. Your apron is so cute. I love the monogramming. I wish my machine did that. I really need to invest in a new one.

Thanks so much for this post! When I got a new sewing machine, I made SURE it was a bernina because they have the best machine embroidery designs for their machines! Thanks again!
